Originally established in 1992, MORTON STREET Dance Center is one of Baltimore’s best and most comprehensive dance schools. MORTON STREET’S exceptional teaching staff offers exciting, age–appropriate, developmental instruction for professional level dancers and every member of the family age 3 to adult.
The school’s youngest students study creative movement and pre-dance which offer a fun introduction to both ballet and modern. Older boys and girls receive technical training in numerous disciplines, including classical ballet, pointe, modern, tap, hip-hop and traditional African dance. We offer modern, ballet, tap, and liturgical dance through regular classes or workshops for adults.
By audition, students may be invited to become a part of one of our performing ensembles for students age 8 to 18. The Repertory ensembles perform frequently throughout the year in venues that include: Baltimore’s citywide Artscape Festival; the Dorothy P. Stanley Dance Festival at Morgan State University; DanceBaltimore at the Morris Mechanic Theatre and the Hippodrome Theatre; Baltimore’s Annual Preakness Parade; and the African American Heritage Arts Festival.
MORTON STREET presents an immensely popular Annual Spring Concert for all of its dancers. In addition, the school offers a fun-filled Summer Dance Camp/Workshop, Youth and Professional Summer Dance Intensives with renowned national and regional faculty, an especially sweet Tiny Tots Mini Camp, and tempting Dance Samplers throughout the year. In the summer of 2005, Morton Street offered a seven week Summer School in the Arts program, offered on behalf of the Morton Street Foundation, Inc. and sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. This was one of only 25 programs in the U.S.
MORTON STREET is located in a lovely, convenient, state-of-the art facility which includes “sprung” dance floors. MORTON STREET prides itself on its professional, technical, and inspired instruction, designed to meet the needs of each of its students. MORTON STREET is a proud member of DanceBaltimore.
MORTON STREET is supported, in part, by the Morton Street Foundation, Inc. a 501(c)(3) corporation.
