What makes Morton Street Dance Center different?

Morton Street Dance Center provides an exceptional dance education rooted in technical excellence, artistic development, and personal growth. Our programs nurture disciplined, confident, and expressive dancers while building a strong foundation in technique, artistry, professionalism, and character. We believe meaningful dance training develops the whole artist — preparing students not only for performance, but also for lifelong appreciation and success.

What programs does Morton Street Dance Center offer?

Morton Street Dance Center offers two distinct training pathways: The Professional Program and The Enrichment Program.

What is the Professional Program

Our Professional Program runs from September through May and provides comprehensive, progressive training for dancers seeking consistent development and a structured dance education. Students receive focused instruction designed to build technical strength, musicality, artistry, and performance skills. The season culminates with our annual concert and includes additional performance and enrichment opportunities.

What is the Enrichment Program

Our Enrichment Program offers 6–8 week courses for youth and adults who wish to explore dance, continue training, or participate in a flexible format. These courses provide quality instruction in a supportive environment for dancers at various experience levels.

What is the youngest age you accept?

We welcome students beginning at age 2. Young dancers must be fully potty trained and able to participate safely and independently in a classroom setting.

Can beginners join?

Yes. Morton Street Dance Center welcomes dancers at all stages of their journey. Beginners receive thoughtful instruction designed to establish strong fundamentals, confidence, and a positive relationship with dance.

What styles of dance do you offer?

For ages 2 - adult, we offer training in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contempoarty, Acrobatics, Musical Theatre, Pointe, and Pre-Pointe for ages 3 through adult. Our curriculum is designed to support students from foundational training through advanced development.

What should my dancer wear to class?

Students are expected to follow the studio dress code, including the required leotard color for their level, sun-tan convertible tights, and the appropriate footwear for each discipline. A consistent dress code supports professionalism, classroom focus, proper alignment, and the teacher’s ability to provide effective corrections. Morton Street Dance Center will be releasing a new updated dress code soon with additional details.

How long is the dance season?

The Professional Program operates September through May and includes structured training, performance preparation, and our annual concert. The Enrichment Program offers 6–8 week courses throughout the year for youth and adult dancers.

Is performance an important part of dance education at Morton Street Dance Center?

Yes. Performance is an important part of dance education at Morton Street Dance Center. Students participate in our annual concert, along with additional opportunities such as lecture demonstrations, holiday events, and studio performances. Students in our Repertory Ensemble Program, as well as dancers selected through audition, may participate in additional performance opportunities, including our annual Nutcracker production, Black History Month opportunities, and more.

What is the Repertory Ensemble Program?

The Repertory Ensemble Program is an advanced performance opportunity for dancers interested in developing their stage experience, versatility, and ensemble skills. Repertory dancers learn and perform choreography, work collaboratively as an ensemble, and participate in additional productions and community performance opportunities throughout the year. Participation may require audition, placement, or faculty recommendation.

Do dancers move to a new level every season?

Not necessarily. Dance development is progressive, and advancement is based on readiness, technical ability, maturity, consistency, and overall growth. Remaining in a level allows dancers to refine skills, build strength, and develop greater artistry. Our faculty places students where they will receive the most appropriate challenge and support.

What does tuition support?

Tuition supports a complete dance education experience, including professional instruction, curriculum development, performance opportunities, mentorship, and a structured environment that encourages discipline, creativity, and artistic excellence. At Morton Street Dance Center, students are not only trained as dancers — they are guided in becoming thoughtful, dedicated, and confident artists.
